Talk the Walk in Warsop Residents in Warsop now have the chance to live a healthier lifestyle thanks to a pioneering new project launched by leading environmental regeneration charity, Groundwork. The Talk the Walk project aims to promote a more active lifestyle within the local community through walking, therefore improving the health and quality of life for those involved. It will provide weekly led walks where people can exercise, make new friends and become involved with nature and the area in which they live. The project is a partnership between Groundwork Ashfield & Mansfield, Warsop Footpaths Group, Mansfield District Council and Mansfield Primary Care Trust. A New Opportunities Fund grant through the Countryside Agency is funding the project over 3 years. To find out more contact Kay Abrahall Telephone: 01623 635334 or email at kabrahall@groundwork.org.uk. ~~~~ Inner

On
2nd April 2002 Nottinghamshire Police underwent
re-organisation which will hopefully improve the service given by Nottinghamshire Police. The result of the re-organisation to this area means that six officers together with myself are working on a regular basis from Warsop Police Station. Two of the Constables are beat managers and their names are known to you these being Pcs Clyde DERBYSHIRE and Frank FISHER. The remaining officers together with myself are fairly new faces to the area. As to myself I have worked around the County in various departments and divisions and have been a uniform Sergeant at Mansfield for twelve years. For the last three years I have worked from Forest Town Police Station moving here when that place closed on 1st April 2002 The residents of the Warsop and Meden Vale areas will benefit from this increase of staff at Warsop and by now some of you will have seen officers out on foot, a sight which has not been seen for some time. I intend for that to continue. It is important that we make our presence known (and felt) on the streets of Warsop. Over the coming months I will through this column profile various aspects of crime as it affects the residents of the area. One of the current trends is that of distraction type burglary/theft. Offenders committing this type of offence will prey on the elderly and vulnerable and will use any sort of excuse or ruse to gain entry to houses sometimes posing as utility officials e.g. gas board or water company officials. The advice of Nottinghamshire Police and myself is ALWAYS ask and check identification BEFORE entry is given. Even if identity cards are shown and you are not convinced or unhappy ask for a telephone number to confirm the visit. Generally by this time anyone who is attempting to commit crime will have gone but if you are still unhappy contact the Police via the 999 system. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE IN YOUR HOUSE IF YOU ARE UNSURE AS TO WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY WANT. If the call is genuine that person will understand the delay as the utility services are briefed about these type of offences. They will visit by prior arrangement if necessary. If you see a suspicious incident could I ask that a description is taken as this is extremely helpful when officers make a search of the area. We will try and address all the problems in the area but if anyone wishes to speak to us at the police station the door is open. Chris Akers - Sergeant i/c Warsop Police Station |
The annual three Parishes Walk took place on Sunday the 12th of May 2002. Around
125 walkers walked 6 routes visiting 3 parishes and raised about £2500
for good causes in the area. Councillor
Colin Avison (Warsop Parish Councillor) who organised the whole event
was delighted with the turnout and wished to specially thank the following
organisations and individuals. |
