Warsop Town Centre Group
unveils development plans

Residents have been warned that Warsop town centre will slowly die if local action to transform the town doesn't go ahead. Parish Council Chairman John Allin is backing town centre plans to revitalise the town, and urges others to become involved in the project.

The Warsop Town Centre Group has been working with town centre specialists Roger Evans Associates on this project over the last year. The design team have worked with the Warsop Parish Council, Warsop Parish Regeneration Agency and Mansfield District Council. Local people have been involved and made important comments on the early design ideas.

The plans have now been finished and the next Town Centre Group meeting is set to look at the different ways that people can be involved in getting action on the ground. The plans include a new public square, street works, a new or extended food store, a health centre, a restaurant and the reopening of Wood Street. The A60 would be treated as a town street, encouraging passing motorists to stop and shop in Warsop, while town centre access and car parking would be improved. The plans try and make the centre of Warsop an attraction, to boost trade and to act as a community focus.

There will be a high profile media launch over the next month and detailed plans will be prepared for environmental works. It is planned that some of the street works will be phased over the next 12-18 months.

The next Warsop Town Centre meeting will be held on 15th November at the Meden School, Warsop, at 6pm.

Christmas Market

A Christmas Market is being planned in Warsop on Saturday 15th December.

Professional support is available to help plan this event and a team of people is being drawn together to make it a success. If the market works, then the group will work with Mansfiled District Council to seek funding for a test period of one year to establish a local market in Warsop.

If you are a trader, wish to hold a stall at the Christmas event, or just want to get involved in the market, then contact Louise Kingdom at the Warsop Parish Regeneration Agency, 22 Sherwood St, Warsop. Tel 840005

The speaker will be Mr Mac Mumford from Mansfield, who will be talking on rural life. Any Warsop man or newcomers to our area who are interested in joining us will be made very welcome. As usual our resident bartender, Mr Jeff Tolson, will be with us throughout the evening.
