Carnival 2001

Carnival
day came and went as usual with a fantastic crowd, great entertainment
and some reasonable weather. Carnivals never run smoothly and
after promising a The committee came in for some criticism in the Chad (most of which was unfounded) and that only sought to damage the way Warsop Carnival is perceived across the wider district. Constructive criticism and practical suggestions on how to make our Carnival better are always welcome - why slag us off in the local press? It does no good whatsoever!! Because of unfortunate circumstances the schools football, that as been a feature of many previous Carnivals, had to be postponed, again at the last minute (two weeks before Carnival day). Welbeck Colts Football Club stepped into the void and arranged a mini soccer tournament for 8, 9 and 10 year olds, for boys and girls. The tournament proved highly successful and next year we hope to increase the number of teams, possibly starting the competition earlier in the day with only the finals played during the Carnival afternoon. This year we were able to attract a superb Music Stage and I'm sure the local artists that used the facilities enjoyed the experience as well. The stage was large enough to promote dancers, again many of the children taking part were from Warsop Parish. Hopefully we will be able to attract the Music Stage again next year with even the possibility of a concert on Carnival Saturday Night! Because of the Foot and Mouth crisis, main arena events were curtailed as we could not involve any livestock (a fate suffered by many notable events throughout the country). However, the Motorbike Mad Men gave a superb display even if they were a bit rusty (they hadn't performed since the previous September as Foot and Mouth restrictions had cancelled so many shows).
Our Carnival this year had many, many problems - the Foot and Mouth crisis, schools soccer, cancellation and the helicopter firm breaking their contract because they didn't feel we would be commercially viable in the prevailing climate of Foot and Mouth, etc. However, the Carnival was a huge success, financially our most successful ever, and I and the Carnival Committee would like to thank everyone who either took part, contributed in any way or just came along and enjoyed a great day. Thank you all!! You know who you are!! - See you all next year! - Andy Wetton, Chairman. |

Thank
You! We
would like to thank all of those who came to our "Flowers with
Rachel" on September 10th. It was a lovely evening - thoroughly
enjoyed by everyone there. Our thanks to Rachel for putting
on the display and many thanks also to the Warsop Traders who sponsored
the arrangements. |
Warsop Men's Group
The shorter days and longer nights have encroached upon us once again and time is drawing nigh for the Men's Group Meetings. We start again on Tuesday 13th November at 7.45pm in the Centre Club Room, Warsop Parish Centre, when the speaker will be Mr Mick Mumford talking on Rural Life. Would our regulars please note that there will be no meeting in October this year. Any Warsop man who is interested in joining us will be made very welcome. - Brian Bennett |

The
Meden Money Tree Credit Union Limited
|
|
The Meden Money Tree Credit Union has now been Registered Under the 1979 Credit Unions Act and the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 as a Credit Union after being assessed and approved by the Financial Services Authority. The Group is now working on a marketing campaign to raise public awareness and encourage people to find out more about the savings and loan co-operative. Anyone who lives or works in their Common Bond Area, which includes the Warsops, Shirebrook, Langwith, Whaley Thorns, Norton, Cuckney, Meden Vale, Spion Kop, and Sookholme, can become a member. They are also preparing the launch of this, a new service for the area, in Market Warsop on Saturday 3rd November at the Hare & Hounds pub, after which the first Collection Point will become operational within the Town hall. The Hare and Hounds pub recently saw another launch as the youngest licensees in the area, twins Andrew and David Turley, launched their own careers in the licenced trade. When trained volunteers and accommodation become available a second Collection Point will be opened in Shirebrook, followed by others throughout the Common Bond Area to meet public needs. A Credit Union is a non-profit making savings and loans co-operative run by its members, who have all undergone full training. They encourage members to save and provide cheap loans to regular savers at low interest rates. They are the easiest way to save money and the cheapest way to borrow. Anyone who wants to join the Credit Union, would like to help in any way, or simply wants more information can call Warsop Town Hall on 845858, or the Chairman, Stuart Whittle on 845380. Members of the group are willing to visit community groups to give a presentation, discuss informally the service they offer and answer questions. |
