Great site, pictures are wonderful. Very informative, I shall be visiting your
area this September with Aunt Marge (Hooley) who was born there in 1925. Sort
of home-comming for her. I hope there are still some relatives to visit with.
Good-by for now, I've booked the site and will visit often.

I have visited your site for the first time today. I love it. I am from the
USA and have been researching my family history, who knew it would lead me to
England. It is very exciting learning that a town is named after a distant relative.
I'll be visiting more often. Thanks

I am currently constructing a site ref. Holiday Hotels abroad that you would
recommend to others for all the right reasons. If you feel that you could recommend
such a Hotel, would you be kind enough to let me know all the details and why
you think others would like to stay there, and scan any relevent photos of the
holiday to me, I would be most grateful. Please e-mail hugh@ultramail.co.uk
Thank you.

I lived in Warsop 1978-1980 (in The Burns) so your site brought back memories.
I remember the Hills and Holes and walks past still-working collieries out to
Clumber Park. Hope the lovely countryside hasn't been gobbled up by houses.

I've been on the internet for 1 day and had came across this site. I think it's
great as I used to live in Warsop. I moved lowly Suffolk 21 years ago, it's
brought back memories of many a night spent in the Hare & Hound. Give my regards

just to say how much i enjoyed the carnival this year. it never ceases to amaze
me how it gets better every year. Thanks to all the organisers also for giving
something to the youth of warsop, although many adults did not aprove of the
local band Scratch Face i thought the performance was great, but then i'm biased
as the singer is my son! the music is not to everyone's taste i agree but how
many of you out there listened to the rolling stones, bob dylan, deep purple
etc and had weired hairstyles and funny clothes? we now wear that stuff to fancy
dress parties. The younger generation have their place in society, they are
not all druggies!

Ryck - I have to agree with everything you say. I have teenagers of my own and
have learned to turn a deaf ear to top bands such as Limp Biscuit, who have
certainly made a name for themselves and no doubt pots of money - as did T.Rex
in my day. I think it's great that young locals got the chance to show off their
talent at the carnival and it's great that they give their time to music rather
than hanging around street corners. You have every right to be a proud dad.

hi to all in warsop. what i would like to know is this, will the warsop cameras
ever be online, because i think it would be a good idea.i dont know about other
people but i like to go all of the world looking at the cams that can be viewed, and
i think it would be a good idea if people from all over the world could see
the place where we live.and i also think with warsop in the heart of robin hood
country we would get alot of visitors from all over the world. mick

Mick, I'm afraid our town centre cameras are too sensitive for footage to be
shown on the web. They are security cameras rather than webcams - capable of
showing peoples faces and revealing their identity. We have to be careful not
to invade the privacy of the general public. I doubt that the council have the
money to pay for a webcam but if they do I'll gladly show it on Warsop Web.

I'm trying to trace cousins of mine who live/lived in the Arnold/Retford areas
of Nottingham. Their names are Christine, John and Kenneth Wilford or Wilberforce
(not sure) Their mother was Nancy (formerly Laverick) and their father's name
was Jack. He died when they were children, I think from a severe asthma attack.
We kept in touch through Nancy's sister Aunty Ethel who lived in Stanton under
Bardon nr Coalville Leics. until her death in 1981. Nancy died in 1972 approx.
I and my family including cousin Barbara Laverick would love to hear from you
again if you read this. Many Thanks Maggie Scott

I have just looked at your site and enjoyed the pics of Warsop Carnival.
My Grandad, Mr Arthur Thomas Porter, otherwise known as Jim, helped to revive
Warsop Carnival in 1932. He was well known in Warsop as was his wife Esme.

My mom asked me to look up any information I could find on Warsop Vale, UK.
My grandmother was born there, and lived for many years, until she met and married
my grandfather in WWII, and moved to the USA. I've visted Warsop, and my realtives
who still live there, and it is a beautiful, wonderful place. Recently, my great
uncle passed away. He resided in Warsop. I am looking for myself, and my mother,
for his obituary in any local UK newspapers, and so far have not been able to
find anything. If you could help me out in any way, it would be greatly appreciated.
We are unsure of the exact name. The first name could be George, Judy, or Gudy,
or even Joody. Last name Tagg, Lee, or Ailward. Thank you

Hi, I have just been to visit my father in law in mansfield woodhouse, as i
have done for many years now, and every time i'm there we travel through spion
kop. It has always made me wonder where the name came from. Even my father in
law does not know so I should imagine he will be interested to find out. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.

Spion Kop was named in memory of the Battle of Spion Kop, which took place in
South Africa during the Boer War and was led by Sir John Talbot Coke of Mansfield
Woodhouse.

Greetings to Warsop and, in particular, the Warsop and District News - Congratulations
on your first issue. As a person, born in Warsop, as was Frances, my wife, we
have never deserted the town we accept as the start for what we have been fortunate
enough to have achieved, in Nottingham, and, to this end, we would be pleased
to keep in contact. There are many who will remember us as active people in
the Church and, in particular myself as Councillor. May we help (outside Politics)
sincerely yours Honorary Aldermen Frances and Frank MBE.
