Hi. I used to live in Warsop many years ago and I'm intrigued by the newsletters about the Royal Estate - which estate are we talking about here? Can someone let me know. Thanks
The 'Royal Estate' is the 'Old Part' of Warsop behind the Town Hall and is so called because the streets are named after the Royal family as they were at the beginning of the last century when the estate was built - ie Victoria Street, Albert Street, Alexandra Street, Edward Street.

greetings Warsop from down under New zealand. delighted to find your Webpage. Researching my Warsop family from C.1850's Rileys. Apparently 1 branch was landlord of the Hare and Hounds. Another lot was my Gt grandmother Sarah Anne Riley b.1843 in Warsop to James and Sarah. If anyone is able to help with further information I would greatly appreciate it. To anyone aged 13-18 out there who either are thinking about a career in the RAF or just want something to do in the evenings which has rewards. Well I can recommend 1208 Air Training Corps its a great organisation and everyone is really friendly so give it a go and get yourself down to the building at the end of carr lane next to the skate park on either a Wednesday or a Friday between 7pm and 9pm and find out more. Good Feeling - I went along the carrs twice this week, the sun was out, the flowers as well and I thought 'what a great feeling' Lucky Warsop.
John - That's the second time I've heard that said this week. Most people do appreciate the simple beauty of our town. Today the swans were all out on the bank of the Mill dam and I thought how priveleged we are that they chose to make Warsop their home. - Carol

I thank all the friends I made at the Warsop Town Hall InfoTech Centre for making me so welcome in the three months that I was visiting my mother, Mrs Maud Cook. It was great to be able to 'drop-in' on Tuesdays Fridays and on one occasion Wednesday and keep honing my computer skills with lots of help from the 'helpers' who volunteer their time to teaching and troubleshooting everyone's problems. I hope to see you all again in the not too distant future regards June Boyer

Today my daughter came home from school complaining to me about an issue which occured at school. As from september the meden school will have all years from 7-11 in the same uniform despite the past years of year 11 being allowed to keep the old tradition of a different uniform. Not only has this happened but one student has been excluded permanately for possesion of cannabis and another has had the same punishment for setting off a fire bell and a fine was issued. I would like to see meden school clean itself up but it wont do this by handing out harsh punishments to other year groups who dont even deserve it.

What do you think about this issue? Are Meden School being too harsh on their pupils? Let us know what you think but please do not include the names of other people in your messages. You may remain anonymous to the public if you choose, but note that the editor is able to track the origin of all messages - Editor

I am writing with regard to the Meden School changing its year 11 uniform policy. I do believe in school uniform and understand rules have to be made but I don’t agree with this decision. When a child reaches the age of 15/16 they become young adults (I realise some of them don’t act like that but the majority do). They reach an age when they have to start making choices; choices which prepare them for the big wide world and by having a choice of a different uniform starts this process. The year 11 uniform is still very smart and still gives them a sense of belonging to the school. I don’t know the reasoning behind this new policy. Will it make the pupils behave better? Will they suddenly change? Will they apply themselves better? I think it will create a lot of ill feeling amongst the pupils. Read More about this on the Letters Page>>

This is about the item on the home page concerning the warning to dog owners, what is in the fields should not be of any concern to dog owners. A dog should be under control when out walking and not let loose to run all over the fields, after all fields belong to a farmer and he makes his living from the crops grown, and should be treated exactly the same as you would like your garden treated. He's spent a lot of time and money to get the crops to where they today. After all you wouldn't like it if everyone let their dogs run loose on your garden would you? No, so why let your dog run all over the fields. If you can't control your dog keep it on the lead.

I AM A PUPIL AT MEDEN SCHOOL AND FINK THE NEW UNIFORM RULE IS RIDICULOUS. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW UNIFORM AS IT MAKES U FEEL OLDER

From: anon Email: <anon>
Posted on: Thursday, May 20, 2004, 11:47 AM

I can see why pupils would be upset about the new Meden school uniform ruling but as a parent who has already had children go through year 11 under the old system I have to say I agree with the change. It's very expensive to have to buy new school uniform (especially when the previous year's are still good) and therefore divisive. I also think that pupils are there to study and not to worry about how they look and what to wear each day.

From:

It is unfortunate that Meden year 11 pupils have been disappointed by not being able to choose their uniform, but why should they be different from the rest of the school when they are still of compulsory school age? When pupils get to sixth form they make decisions about where they learn and it is then that they should be allowed to decide what they wear. They are also old enough to get a part time job and buy their own clothes - as per previous parent's message.

hello anyone of old, my dad was born in warsop, though i never knew it until he died and i saw the death certificate. my dad was born in warsop in 1909/10. i never knew my granddad or granma. our surname is Williams, my grandad was very tall with a long neck (i dont know much(only seen photos) my granma was little round and chubby with very white hair in her photos. I believe they had 13 children in the family. the two eldest were Alfred and Jack Williams. the last surviving auntie (Evelyn)aged 74 knows nothing of warsop. the family moved to Woodhouse in Sheffield then moved to Beighton in Chesterfield. my uncles worked in the brookhouse Colliery and at the same time ran a Coal Haulage Firm. the family held land in Woodhouse and Beighton, long since lost through marriage. i know this is a long shot, than

dog owners and dog mess. i take the dog for a walk down the carrs via vale avenue. the amount of dog mess is unbeleivable, why cant dog owners be more responsible? . im not blowing my own trumpet but i do feel sorry for the residents of vale ave who live near to the river. the smell on hot days is sometimes orrendous. personaly i carry 2 cheap carrier bags to SCOOP THE POOP. ITS CLEAN AND EFFICIANT WAY TO CLEAR UP AFTER YOUR DOG , I MEAN AT LEAST BINS ARE PROVIDED FOR THIS SORT OF WASTE ON THE CARRS. I FEEL A FEW IF NOT ALL dog owners should be made to clear up after their dogs. i do but i dont seem to be setting a trend unfortunatley

Hi all yr 10 students who attend Meden School. i think the school has changed loads sinse we got the new deputy head. It is becoming more like a prison and people should listen to what the pupils want. coz no matter what happens we feel more comfortable with the old yr 11 uniform and it would be easier to concentrate in exams if we didnt have stupid ties n blazers (especially on girls they make our shoulders look 10 times as broud as they shoul be).!!!!!!!!!!!!! bye yall ps have a good hol evry one in Meden!!

I lived in warsop for 12 years of my life. As I write this I am only 13. Warsop was a great place to spend those 12 years of my life and I never wanted to move. I am sure that I have spent the best years of my life there, so I just want to let every one know that there is, in my opinion, no better place to live than Warsop.

i have just read the letter about the problem with under age drinkers and how it is causing problems for bargain booze, well all i can say is bargain boooze should have shut along time ago or not have even opened because i know they will serve anyone even if they look 12 as long as they are not a secret shopper sent from head office, it concerns me as my young daughter is 14 and i know that she does not look it but she still gets served because shes knows a lad who works there, and guess what he is 15 and he serves the customers with alchohol, another lad who used to work there was also the same age and he used to serve aswell, i dont care how much they deny serving under agers but at the end of the day it is a sale for them and i hope the place shuts sooner rather th

hi i would just like to say that bargain booze insnt intent on serving underage people on purpose. i run an off-licence of my own. if a customer looks over the age of 21 they dont need to supply identification. if someones daughter or son looked at that age they could easily get served. its not up to the staff to ask every single person to produce ID. parents should bring up there children to respect the law as do most off-licences.

Wot has hapened to the yer 12s smart apperance Smart dress sence has always been the way . mr Ellis and mr Thomson would cringe to see the scruffy looking young adults wearing there baggy jeans and rock band t shirts ,they are ok after school time but not during lessons.

I disagree! Compulsory school ends after year 11, up to which time pupils should wear uniform. Year 12 is an option and pupils stay at school for A levels by choice, so surely they should be able decide for themselves what to wear! If they went to college they'd be able to dress exactly as they please, so why not at school!

With View to the meden's school uniform change, I dont see why it should change its policy now. There are bigger issues to hand with the school, other than the uniform. My own children attended the school, and when visiting it's premises, I found that nothing had changed in the 12 years since I myself left. Infact things looked a lot worse than in my days at the school. We were proud to wear the uniform, had cleanliness and tidiness drilled into us, and for such things as the wrong shoes, no tie or no jumper under a blazer, you were punished. I dont see how by making everyone wear the same uniform, they are going to improve the schools image. Mr Ellis would turn in his grave if he saw the school in the state I saw it in, I was so shocked! For all new year 12 Students at the Meden, Raichelle sends h

I Totally agree with 'concerned', as i am in yr 11 now at the meden school, and i commented to my family and friends only the other day about the scruffyness of the new year 12 students. when my two older brothers attended there (one who has recently left, and one who left a few yrs ago) you wouldnt have seen any one person looking as scruffy, as u do now. What happened to the saying that we all get "We are reprisenting our school when we are not in it". The meden is a very good school, Please dont let it down year 12.

Year 12 students are young adults and should be treated as such, which includes choosing what to wear. Fashions change, so it's not likely they'd want to wear the same as 10, 5, or even 2 years ago. Do you think they'll wear a collar and tie when they get to university? Meden is a good school and always has been. So hat's off to year 12 students for choosing to stay there rather than going to colleges and let's leave them alone to get on with studying!

Hello Warsop. I work at Bargain Booze, can I just say that the remark about "it's a sale for them", is not only untrue & unfair but nothing more than a (poor)attempt to shut us down. I have received an awful amount of abuse off people i have refused and I find remarks about "under agers" being served by myself very disheartening. If, whoever you are, would like to come in and see how many youngsters we refuse daily, your more than welcome. Although, considering that I'm fairly confident of your identity, I doubt you'll accept my offer.

Her mum and dad used to live on Egmanton Road and she'll be around 40 now (2004). She has at least 3 daughters though I can only remember 2 names - Laura and Sophie. Hey ive just been looking at some of the old messages (this is the first time ive been on this site because i didnt think warsop had a website. i noticed alot of pupils from meden school really angry about the uniform and i know its too late now but the reason year 11 are having to wear the same uniform as previous years is because of the prevoius year 11 who dis obayed the normal standrad rules and its a shame that the teachers had to result in not letting you wear your own ties and shirts but this issue has gone. ANYWAY! ive started a punk band and i wanted to know if the church warsop tudor barn allows bands to practice there it would really help me and my friends (after all i live in church warsop and they live in shirebrook) we're all aged 17 so if someone could tell me if they let bands practice there

I am trying to find information or contact some family memebers from Warsop- Murphy. My parents moved to Warsop after they were married in Ireland. They went to my Uncle John and Aunt Vera who lived in Warsop in the 1960's. When my parents left England for America they lost contact with family and friends in Warsop. Since there is a 6o year waiting period on releasing census information on the web can anyone help me with obtaining information (via local newspaper websites, community news) from Warsop. Thanks

To all Meden School Year 11 - Have a lovely Prom Night! I went to have a sneaky look at you arriving at the Clumber Hotel, as did most other parents, and how emotional it was. Girls, you look absolutely stunning and so sophisticated in your evening gowns. Boys, or should I say Gentlemen, dressed so very smart in your bow ties and suits, you'd have outshone James Bond. I don't think there was a parent there without a lump in their throat and a smile of pride on their face. Enjoy!!!

I work for Imago Prodcutions an independent television production company based in Norwich. I am reseaching into an idea with the working tile 'Underground Britain'. I have read several reports that Welbeck Abbey has numerous underground tunnels and rooms. I am really keen to speak to the current owner about the possibility of gaining access for filming. If anyone has any contact names details of the current owner or someone that maybe able to help that would be fantastic.
