Opening a New Document:
You have previously learned how to open an existing document but for this course you need to produce new documents of your own.

To open a New document: 1 Open the File menu 2 Choose New from the drop-down box

A new box will open 1 Ensure that Blank Document is highlighted. 2 Click OK |
You now
have a blank document on which to begin typing and editing as normal but don't
forget to save your document in an appropriate place.
Find and Replace:
This function
is particularly useful for changing words within a long document. For example,
a document refers to Miss Smith as being the contact for information. Miss
Smith gets married and becomes Mrs Jones. All references to Miss Smith can
be found and replaced with Mrs Jones.

You are typing a report about the Hawthorn using its botanical name 'Crataegus
Monogyna Pteridifolia', which may need typing several times. Save time by
using a shortened version such as 'crat', then on completion, find and replace
'crat' with 'Crataegus Monogyna Pteridifolia'.
1 In the Edit menu, choose Replace
2 The Find and Replace dialogue box will open

3 In the Find what: box type the word that you want to search for.
4 In the Replace with: box type the new word.
5 Ensure that there is a tick in the Find whole words only: check box (if this is not visible, click on the More button.
NB: If this box is not checked, a search for the word 'and' would produce other words that contain the same pattern, such as hand, expand, Panda.
6 Click the Find Next button to start your search.
7 The first instance of the word will be found and highlighted.
8 To replace this with your new word click the Replace button.
9 Repeat steps 6 to 8 to continue finding and replacing throughout your document.
Note:
The search will
begin from the point at which your cursor is placed and will cycle through
until the whole document has been searched.
